PARK LANE ADOPTS PETUNIA (continued)

and gave her a new forever home. Our sweet little girl is 13 years old with severe arthritis making it extremely difficult for her to walk. While in the shelter she had to lie on cold cement in all kinds of weather which isnt the best for arthritis. Our wonderful staff kicked right in. A new soft bed. And another softer bed. New feeding bowls. Toys, toys and more toys. Even her own Christmas stocking which is still hanging!

Today we are happy to report that one month later our girl has adjusted nicely which is totally due to all of the hotels staff, from housekeeping, maintenance, front desk to managers, that take her out, feed her, give her the needed medications but most importantly give her tons of love and affection. We are so happy to announce that Miss Petunia now wags her tail!!! Kudos to the Park Lane staff for a job well done.

Miss Petunias adoption coincided with our holiday fund raiser for the humane society on December 15, 2011. Our guests included several adoptable dogs from the shelter! The community showered us with donations by purchasing Christmas stockings with photos of the animals up for adoption and placing those photos on our Christmas tree in the lobby. The Park Lane raised over $500 dollars at our event leaving the shelter over joyed

We were fortunate to have our event catered by Michelles Gourmet To Go which provided delectable culinary delights, the most scrumptious dog cake by Jane Norris, and an adorable dog shaped flower arrangement by Angie Miles! Kudos to all three ladies for providing great food and a beautiful presentation. You made an already wonderful evening even better.

HILTON HEAD BIKE GROUP GOES FOR THE GOLD DESIGNATION

Hilton Head Island earned a silver medal from the League of American Bicyclists in May, becoming the state's only community -- and one of the few in the Southeast -- to earn the distinction, along with designation as a Bicycle Friendly Community. Now, cycling advocates hope the island can become even more bike-friendly and earn a gold designation.
Some of the Bicycle Advisory Committee's goals include:

  • Improving signs and mapping so visitors and residents know which destinations they can reach by bike.
  • Creating an interactive website that would include all island biking information, including activities, clubs, rides and routes.
  • Creating safe bike routes to schools.
  • Increasing traffic enforcement to promote safety and discouraging careless and reckless behavior by motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists.
  • Making all major island events convenient for bikers.
  • Making cycling a more memorable experience with convenient bike parking, scenic routes and rest areas.

"We don't want to rest on our laurels, but to continue doing what we can to Make Hilton Head a friendly and safe biking destination." said committee co-chairman David Zunker, associate director for sales and marketing with the Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce.
Town and chamber of commerce officials said the recognition will help attract more tourists, increase property values and improve public health.
"This public/private effort is another positive example of town staff and local volunteers collaborating to help make Hilton Head Island a better place to live," said town manager Steve Riley.
Hilton Head has more than 100 miles of paths for runners, walkers, skaters and bikers, giving it high marks with League of American Bicyclists. The island also scored well when it came to connectivity, road crossings for bicyclists, path maintenance and bike rentals.
